3 Good Reasons Why You Need A Walkway Auditor

June 10, 2015 by Safer Walkways Staff 6 Comments

When it comes to keeping employees and customers safe at your business, don’t forget to include plans for walkways. It doesn’t matter what kind of hard surface flooring your office has, you can benefit from a certified and experienced walkway auditor. U.S. businesses are responsible for the well-being of everyone on the property, and unsafe walkways and flooring can spell big trouble.

Here are 3 reasons why you need a certified walkway auditor:

1. Prevent Slip and Fall Accidents

Hazardous flooring conditions can cause a number of workplace injuries like slips, trips and falls. Besides wanting to keep people safe from accidents and injuries, you also want to steer clear of any liability lawsuits or excessive insurance claims, too. A walkway auditor is the person to call to ensure every square inch of your business location is safe for everyone.

2. Identify Trouble Early

An experienced walkway auditor has been trained to test each floor’s slip resistance. They can also identify potential slip, trip, and fall hazards and provide recommendations for eliminating the problems. In short, a walkway auditor can identify potential problems before they become costly lawsuits. You’ll get an unbiased report about the areas with low traction with suggestions on what you need to do to raise them to high traction areas and minimize risks.

3. Launch a Floor Safety Program

If an employee or customer does slip, trip or fall, it can mean a trip to court for you and your business. If you have a walkway audit report that identified risky areas, and have documented your efforts to remedy them, it shows due diligence to eliminate hazards at the workplace. It’s an excellent time to implement or update a floor safety program that can include regular audits, training for proper cleanup, purchasing or updating tools and equipment for safe floors like “wet floor” signs and walkway mats, and more. If an accident does happen, regular reports from walkway auditors can help highlight the truth about the floor’s condition before the event took place.

Business owners can really benefit from walkway audits and need to make it a regular part of their overall maintenance and compliance program. A certified walkway auditor can be a real asset to your bottom line when you hire one with the right experience and background to professionally evaluate your location.
